NCSF’s mission is to entertain, educate and enrich North Carolina students and citizens with quality professional productions of the world’s great plays, and with in-school and life-long learning opportunities. The Festival takes pride in its service as a cultural and artistic resource. It enriches life, broadens sensibilities, preserves cultural and historical pathways and, overall, builds community. It’s great entertainment, too! NCSF attracts high caliber professional actors, directors, designers and technicians from all over the United States, as well as theatre artists and technicians trained in colleges and universities right here in North Carolina. It is associated with Actors’ Equity Association, the union of professional actors and stage managers, and operates under an agreement between the union and The League of Resident Theatres. Spirit Center is The Festival’s new home, a 51,000 square foot central operations facility that also houses the company’s expanding Outreach Education program. Rehearsals, camps, classes, seminars and workshops bring energy and life to the community. Spirit Center’s names says it all – great theatre and great theatre programs ennoble life, bring out the best in us all and buoy the human spirit. The Festival is a strong example of how a well-run arts organization can contribute to the cultural, educational and economic life of a region and state. Its commitment to statewide service and artistic achievement has earned it the designation, The State Shakespeare Festival. NCSF gratefully acknowledges the North Carolina General Assembly for this designation and for its vital funding support. NCSF also thanks all those who purchase tickets and contribute generously to its mission.

Shakespeare To Go Readies The 2010 Shakespeare To Go school tour is deep into its rehearsal process this January. All is in order to hit the road on February 1 for a sweeping tour of North Carolina schools, homeschools, and community centers. Since 1977, NCSF school tours have visited every North Carolina county, reaching more than 500,000 students with over 2,000 performances! Shakespeare To Go is a living visual aid that invigorates and inspires the classroom study of Shakespeare’s greatest plays. After 2009’s fabulously successful tour of a 60-minute version of Romeo and Juliet, this year's STG will feature a choice between 60-minute versions of Hamlet or The Taming of the Shrew. STG for Homeschools Triad area homeschoolers are invited to attend an exclusive performance of Shakespeare To Go. Come and enjoy this theatrical treat with your family or your entire homeschool support group. A fieldtrip to The Festival is just the thing to enrich your study of Shakespeare, drama, or your general language arts curriculum. MONDAY, MARCH 29 10:00-11:00 Hamlet 12:00-1:00 The Taming of the Shrew NCSF Spirit Center 807 West Ward Avenue High Point, NC 27260 TICKETS (all ages): $7 per seat, one show $12 per seat, both shows Limited Seating Bring Shakespeare to Your Town If you're wondering how to enliven the inclusion of Shakespeare as part of your curriculum, plan to host a performance of the Shakespeare To Go touring company right in your community. Either performance will offer your classroom or homeschool students (suggested for grades 4 and up) direct experience with Shakespeare's texts. There is no better way to demonstrate how exciting, fun and alive the Bard can be! Coming Soon! The next Hands On Shakespeare teacher workshops are being planned for 2010. These workshops will be for teachers and home educators from near and far to get more attuned to Shakespeare’s work. CEU credits will be available.
