NCShakes Announces Community Auditions For December Production of A Christmas Carol

NCShakes will hold non-professional auditions next month for the 35th anniversary production of A Christmas Carol, which will be presented at the High Point Theatre Dec. 6-22.

Non-Equity and community actors – including youth eight years and older – are invited to schedule appointments for auditions, which will take place Friday, Oct. 5 from 6-9 p.m. Call-back auditions, if necessary, will be on Oct. 23.

Auditions will be at NCShakes Spirit Center campus, 807 W. Ward Ave in High Point. To schedule an audition, please call NCShakes at 336-841-2273 weekday mornings.

For the audition, all actors except youth should prepare one brief monologue of roughly two minutes from a play of their choice and be prepared to sing without accompaniment a few bars of a Christmas song of their choice. Youth will be asked to read from the script when they audition. NCShakes requires an 8x10 black-and-white head shot and detailed resume at audition.

Actor contracts will run six weeks, from Nov. 13 to Dec. 23. Non-Equity actors receive $250-$300 weekly, depending on experience and casting. Community actors are hired at $100-$125 weekly, or an honorarium, depending on experience and casting. Children receive a $125 honorarium.

All actors must be available for rehearsals six days each week and all 25 performances, including nine SchoolFest 10 a.m. weekday matinees. Mondays and Thanksgiving Day are days off.

A Christmas Carol is produced under a contract with Actors’ Equity Association, the union of professional actors and stage managers. Generally, NCShakes fills 11 to 12 Equity positions, including stage managers, and complements the company with non- professionals. Non-Equity, youth and adult community actors also play a prominent role in the production and are encouraged to audition. NCShakes has already filled all roles for which it chooses to cast Equity actors.
