NCShakes Rallies Support with Fundraising Performances of “A Christmas Carol Unplugged”

HIGH POINT, N.C. – NCShakes is very excited to present two special performances of its yuletide classic this year, during the weekend before Christmas.

Continuing its 36-year tradition, NCShakes brings a beloved and familiar telling of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” to the stage in a new way. This year’s performance is dubbed “A Christmas Carol Unplugged.” The glorious story, the heartwarming music and your favorite actors come together in a special presentation of NCShakes' renowned production.

Unlike a traditional theatre production with scenery, costumes, lighting and props, the focus in these performances will be on the telling of the story – and, of course, singing the music.

"We're very excited about this project," says Pedro Silva, NCShakes Managing Director, known for his portrayal of Ebenezer Scrooge in earlier NCShakes’ fully staged adaptations. Silva directs the production and performs Scrooge. "While we don't have current resources to fully mount “Carol” as we have over the years, we're confident this project will be a highlight of the season for those who have enjoyed our traditional production, and for those eager for a fresh Christmas experience," Silva adds.

Many familiar cast members – including Lucius Houghton as the Ghost of Christmas Present – are returning to this year’s special production, volunteering their performances in support of the professional theatre company’s campaign to raise funds to return to full operation beginning next year.

“A Christmas Carol Unplugged” is receiving sponsorship support from High Point Regional Hospital UNC Health Care, Simon Jewelers and High Point Enterprise. Furthermore audience members are invited to be generous when purchasing each ticket, by designating a contribution in support of the company over and above the traditional price of admission.

“A Christmas Carol Unplugged” will perform Friday, December 20 at 7:30 pm, and Sunday, December 22 at 2:00 pm at High Point Theatre. Performances are recommended for age 10 and above. NCShakes is employing a 'Pay All You Can' program for this fundraiser, with suggested minimum donations of $25. Donations over $25 per person are tax-deductible. Reserved seating tickets are now on sale. The High Point Theatre Box Office is open Noon-5:00 pm, M-F, and one hour before curtain on performance days.
